Brief historical information about the Karakalpak branch of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Oncology and Radiology.
The medical service of the Oncological Dispensary of the Republic of Karakalpakstan was first established in 1952 in a part of the building of the city hospital with 10 beds. First Chief Physician of the Oncology Dispensary Faid Abdurakhmanovich. With the completion of the radiology building in 1962, the oncology dispensary’s inpatient departments were expanded to 50 beds. In 1967, a new building for the Karakalpakstan Republic Oncology Dispensary, consisting of 150 beds, was built and put into operation. Since then, the Department of Thoracoabdominal Surgery, the Department of Women’s Reproductive Diseases, the Department of General Oncology, the Department of Chemotherapy, the Radiology Department, and the Department of Organizational and Methodological Support have been established. A polyclinic, a cytology clinic, and a biochemistry laboratory have begun operating. In 1972, the Karakalpak branch of the Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology of the Ministry of Health of the Uzbek SSR was established.
Based on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated November 28, 2011 No. PP-1652 “On Measures for Further Deepening the Reform of the Healthcare System,” major repairs and reconstruction of oncology dispensaries were included in the Investment Project, and in 2013, a new polyclinic and a radiology building with 40 beds were commissioned under the state project. In 2014, major repairs were carried out in the old inpatient department where patients were treated.
The branch operates based on Order No. 631 of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated December 12, 1993, “Further Improvement of Prevention, Early Diagnosis, and Treatment of Tumor Diseases.” According to Order No. 329 of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Karakalpakstan dated September 7, 2018, the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Oncology and Radiology was transformed into the Karakalpakstan branch. The current structure of the branch consists of 160 beds: thoracoabdominal department – 30 beds, female reproductive organ diseases department – 30 beds, chemotherapy department – 20 beds, palliative care department – 20 beds, general oncology department – 20 beds, radiology department – 40 beds.
